Returning to his very own imprint, Spynal Records, for their fourth release, Mancunian drum and bass innovator Diligent Fingers presents the colossal new two-tracker “Everything Test Dead” / “Nightshade”.

Both equally rich and immersive in their own ways, the pair of songs showcase the accomplished beatmaker’s production prowess, distilling nostalgic junglist sensibilities into thoroughly forward-thinking arrangements. It’s this approach which has found the North West native championed by veritable trailblazers of the D&B scene including BBC Radio 1’s René LaVice, Hospital Records co-founder London Elektricity and Dread Recordings pioneer Ray Keith.
The A-side, “Everything Test Dead”, owes its name to an echoing, patois-laden vocal sample which takes pride of place in the mix. Set against a backdrop of ominous, drawn-out leads and dogged hi-hats, these war-ready cautions foreshadow a ferocious crescendo of mottled basslines, springy reeses and clattering breaks, which, combined, have deadly consequences. On the flip side, “Nightshade” heads in another direction. Furnished with vibrant strings and a poppy topline, it’s a comparatively silky cut which suddenly springs into action without warning, deploying barking basslines and snappy drums to result in an equally hefty number.
“Everything Test Dead” / “Nightshade” will initially be exclusive to Juno Download and Spotify from 1 October 2021 before landing on a full range of digital service providers on 15 October 2021.
